Re: The definitive gsr engine build article
I have a jdm gsr crank, and a new oem vtec oil pump.
the crank is flat on 2 sides, while the oil pump has a concave section on one of the flat parts.
crank example:

oil pump example:

It doesn't look like it would matter which way I slide the oil pump on, but wanted to verify that I have the right pump for this crank. There must be some purpose for that ridge cutout on the oil pump piece...
Thanks

Re: The definitive gsr engine build article
great write up. I am building my first b16 for boost. I have the shop manual from honda and i found this just as helpful if not more so because of the detail for after market parts and pics. the videos are really nice as well. you guys are doing a great job, keep up the good work. most informative site hands down!!

Re: The definitive gsr engine build article
Your articles on engine building have given me the confidence to build my new engine. I am currently sizing bearing and I got .0017 to .0019 clearance on the mains using a standard set of ACL bearings which I am happy with (a little looser is better right?). I cant seem to figure out how to properly use a dial bore gauge yet so I am taking Manley's word when they say the rod bore is 1.8900 (have not ordered them yet), I measured exactly 1.7584 on every rod journal and when using laskey's chart for Green bearings the math gives me .0138" clearance, do you think this is a little too tight? Should I order a set of ACL Race Bearings for the rods?
Also should I just follow Arias's ring gap recommendations or go a little looser for 800+hp? I had GE set my P/W at .045" so I should be good there right?
I noticed in your article there is no set torque on oil squirter plugs, so just tighten them down and then give them another 1/4 turn? This kind of makes me nervous...lol
TIA
